Usually the most expensive way to address a problem is to ignore it.

Seeking legal advice in a timely manner can help you plan to avoid costly problems in the future, know what to document about a developing situation, and what steps may be taken to avoid further damages or legal expense.

if litigation may be required, most legal actions need to be taken within a set period of time, known as a "statute of limitations." Regardless, the more delay, the less reliable the memory and the greater likelihood important information may be lost or misplaced.

While we are in a do-it-yourself age, the old adage "he who has himself as a lawyer has a fool for a client" still has merit in many situations

When faced with a problem it is easy to feel overwhelmed.  Sometimes whether there is a legal issues is not clear.

That is one reason free initial consultations are available, both by telephone and in person.  Often times a short meeting can help you identify whether you have a situation where there is a legal remedy and what would be involved in using that legal remedy.

When you have an initial consultation it is important to provide or have access to the information and documents related to the problem.  For landlord-tenant issues, you need a copy of a lease.  If there is an employment issue, it is helpful to provide employee handbooks, union contracts, and contracts of employment.  In family law matters, copies of current financial documents (paystubs, tax returns, listing of assets and debts) will make an initial meeting more productive.

One of the important parts of practice is to know what you do not know.  When your legal matter requires you to use the services of other experts, such as accountants, real estate professionals, parenting coordinators, counselors, financial planners, aging and disability support agencies, or appraisers, you will be referred out or they will be brought in as consultants.

If your legal problem requires a specialty area of legal expertise, such as bankruptcy, criminal, or juvenile law, a proper referral or co-counsel arrangement will be made.

The goal is always to have you receive the services best suited to you achieving your goals.
