An Iowa native, Terry received her BA. with Honors in History, M.A. in History, and J.D. with High Distinction from the University of Iowa.  She has been in general civil practice in Cedar Falls since graduation, practicing with an emphasis on family law, business, and alternative dispute resolution.  Her practice includes civil trials and appeals.


Terry is the author of Iowa Legal Forms: Family Law;Practical Mediation; and  Practical Mediation: Aging Issues.   She has presented at continuing education programs for attorneys for the Iowa State Bar Association, Black Hawk County Bar Association, Bremer County Bar Association, and National Business Institute. Terry has also been an instructor in family law at UNI. 

 

Terry received her first mediation training in 1987 and served three years as the President of the Iowa Association of Mediators. She is a First District Roster Mediator and has designed and presented mediation trainings for aging issues mediators.  Since her training in Collaborative Law in April of 2016 Terry has also been active in processing collaborate family law cases. 


ATerry has been married for more than four decades and has one adult daughter.   She is an avid cook, reader, and second-generation yogi.  Her proudest life accomplishments are receipt of the John Philips Sousa Award as a high school senior and very briefly holding a state age-group Masters Swimming record in the 200 yard breaststroke.

Terry Parsons


INDIVIDUALS, AGENCIES AND BUSINESSES WITH CIVIL PLANNING AND LITIGATION CONCERNS


Clients range from private individuals from all walks of life to businesses.  Always interested in implementing technology into the legal practice, Terry uses cloud technology for secure and convenient exchange of information with clients who are comfortable with that fomat.  Her commitment to finding better ways to service clients has lead her to become trained in multiple models of mediation and in collaborative law to expand client options beyond traditional legal services.


Community Service has ranged from chairing the boards of the local CAP agency, Operation Threshold, to chairing the Board of Directors of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and serving as president of the Iowa Association of Mediators.    Terry currently serves on the Iowa Supreme Court Task Force Steering Committee studying Family Law Case Processing and is a former member of the 1st Judicial District Nominating Committee, and the Iowa Supreme Court Unauthorized Practice Commission.   She served as the chair of the Black Hawk County Good Citizenship Award committee for over a decade helping recognize regional high school students who demonstrated good citizenship and an understanding of the constitutional form of government.
